About PLYMOUTH... The Hoe and Smeatons Tower look over Plymouth Sound which is a natural harbour popular for yachting, boating, watersports and swimming. The Hoe is world-famous as the place where Sir Francis Francis Drake played a game of bowls when England was just about to be invaded by The Spanish Armarda. Towards the left of the Hoe is The Royal Citadel, it's rich history as the first line of defence is included in a guided tour. Plymouth Dome is a more recent addition on the Hoe, it is a heritage centre giving holidaymakers and visitors an insight into Plymouths days gone by. The historic Barbican in Plymouth is the medieval heart of the city, and many centuries ago was the entrance to a long forgotten castle. The Mayflower Steps where the Pilgrim Fathers left for the New World in 1620 is a mecca for holidaymakers. Dartmoor National Park is located to the North of the city. |
